While Jesus lived here on earth, he gave us many examples of how to show compassion and care for those around us. He showed it in the way he cared for the disciples when they feared for their lives in the storm (Mark 4:35-41). He showed it in the way he made a blind man see (John 9). He cared for the young (Matthew 19:13-15). He cared for those who didn’t belong (John 4:7-31). Over and over again we see Jesus care for those the world views as less than.
Church Community
We are a community that cares deeply for each other both in our service and in everyday living. In our church service, this can include:
- Service Setup
- Managing audio visuals and our live stream
- Leading worship
- Serving in children’s ministry so parents can participate in the service
- Greeters
- Words of encouragement, scripture reading, and prayer
- Preaching the sermon
We also care for each other by filling practical needs. From taking meals to a church family in need of support, checking in with each other throughout the week and in our missional community setting and encouraging each other in our daily walk with Jesus.
Local Community
Just as importantly, we believe it’s important to care for our community. We are a small church so we are limited in how many things we can participate in, but some of the areas that are important to us are:
- Teachers in our local schools
- Foster care and grandparents raising grandchildren
- Single parents
- Homelessness
- Domestic Violence and anti-trafficking initiatives
- Refugees and immigrants
Additionally, we believe in equipping and empowering our church members to do more good than harm. As such, several members are certified through Give Her Wings and we offer a variety of training opportunities throughout the year to all members. We also prioritize the safety of our children and youth and have required trainings and strong protocols in place for our children and youth ministry.
Hope and Healing for Survivors of Trauma
In this conversation, Rachael Denhollander helps survivors of abuse to find hope and healing through the real dynamics of how trauma affects us in body and soul. After her talk, she engaged with the community’s questions surrounding this issue.
This was hosted at Hope Recovery Center by King’s Cross Church on April 20, 2022.
